Mike (Bass)
Was born in South London in 1962 and at the age of 11 he bought his first 6 string guitar from Woolworths in Streatham. He recalls that the first song he played on his Audition guitar was ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’ by The Status Quo. “Having two older brothers meant all I listened to was mainly 60’s music, most of which consisted of three chords so thanks to Burt Weedens ‘Play in a day’ I was soon able to grasp most of the songs of that era”.
After playing in numerous punk and new wave bands throughout the mid 70s, Mike (Man) joined ‘Future Daze’, a neo psychedelic outfit. After several gigs and tours the band were signed to Polydor Records on a five year contract and went on to release 3 singles hitting the charts in various countries. Musical differences led to his departure in the early 80’s giving him a chance to link up with Bill (Drummer) and form a new wave/mod trio called ‘The Force’. Mike was now playing a blonde fender telecaster as used by Rick Parfitt which he picked up in the mid 70s.
The bass player of The Force left for a recording deal with A&M records, and, as the band were unable to find another bass player Mike agreed to change his 6 strings for 4. “Fortunately, we knew of a guitarist called Dave (Rossi) so I agreed to go on bass as a temporary measure. Guess what, 20 years later I’m still playing only 4 strings”
